movie review

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

I watched this movie on DVD with my boyfriend in spring 2009 and though I am not a big fan of Scarlett Johansson, I thought it would be amazing to watch it for the preparation for one month adventure in Barcelona, Spain in the upcoming summer and yes, I love Penelope Cruz. This movie may sound like an ordinary chick flick but it is not cheesy or predictable, even boys can enjoy this movie without complaining.

This movie is set in one of the most amazing and exciting cities, Barcelona, the movie starts with the narration for the two American women Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarllet Johansson), who are very different from each other but still are good friends, taking summer vacation for themselves without their lovers or other complications. They arrive in Barcelona where they meet handsome, charismatic and very interesting Spanish artist, Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem). They are asked to go to Oviedo with him randomly at the restaurant and at first the girls do not like him but the story leads to where both of them start liking the same guy and Juan Antonio's ex-wife shows up and complicates the relationship between Cristina and Juan Antonio while Vicky is having a difficult time with her husband to be who surprises Vicky by visiting them in Barcelona.

This movie is very artistic, meaningful, thought-provoking yet very fun-filled also the selection of music is very lovely as well. As I said above, you can watch this with your girlfriends, boyfriends your gay friends, artistic friends...,the list goes on and on and I guarantee you, most of you can enjoy it without a doubt. It will make you want to visit the city of Barcelona and possibly make you want to have a spanish lover...,or not :-P

Movie Review Response

One movie I want to see is Dear John. Here are some reviews:

hanin84 from Canada: " I was one of those girls who squealed every time they saw a TV spot, or watched the trailer on YouTube a million times. I bawled my eyes out when I read the book- both times I read it. Last night, I went to see the movie knowing full well that it wasn't going to live up to the book. Unfortunately, I was right."

wlb from Sacramento CA :"I thought it was a beautiful movie and in staying for the credits (a trick that a friend of mine, a movie connoisseur, taught me) - co-star Amanda Seyfried is multi-talented having sung in some of the movie's soundtracks."

kirahheffner from United States:"maybe i'm just a sap, or i watched it at the wrong time of day, but i did cry. It's the classic tragic love story. the relationship that everyone wants but no one really ever gets. and things just keep falling apart."

Based on the review, I want to see this movie less as I have already read the book and the people says this is a beautiful love story and I would still watch it but my expectation for this movie is lower now. Though it could be worse that I expected, I am still willing to see this movie because I loved the book!!!
